Buffalo Ranch Featured In ‘Dances With Wolves’ To Be Sold

FORT PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A buffalo ranch near Fort Pierre that once served as the setting for the western epic “Dances With Wolves” is being sold.

Owner Kaye Ingle tells KCCR-AM ( ) the Houck Triple U Buffalo Ranch in Stanley County is being sold to pay off debts.

Ingle’s parents bought the ranch in 1959. Thirty years later, the South Dakota Department of Tourism told the family that Kevin Costner was looking for a buffalo herd to use in his upcoming film.

The family agreed to let the crew film on their ranch for more than two months.

Ingle says a number of fans have visited the ranch, particularly to see the fort built for the film that remained on the property for years.

The film was released 25 years ago this November.
