Correction: Community Grants Story

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — In a story June 1 about the awarding of state grant funding to six projects in South Dakota, The Associated Press erroneously reported how the city of Florence plans to spend its portion. It will use the money to improve its wastewater system, not its water distribution system.

A corrected version of the story is below:

Daugaard: Over $2.8M in funding to help 6 community projects

Daugaard awards more than $2.8 million in funding to 6 community projects in South Dakota

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Gov. Dennis Daugaard has awarded more than $2.8 million in grant funding to aid six projects in communities throughout the state.

The governor says the Community Development Block Grants will help complete the projects totaling more than $15.3 million. The funding will go to Brown County, Dewey County, Florence, Hosmer, Montrose and Wessington Springs.

All communities except Wessington Springs are receiving $515,000.

The funding for Brown County will assist Safe Harbor with the construction of the new domestic abuse facility in Aberdeen.

The grants to Florence and Hosmer will go toward improving wastewater systems. Dewey County will use the money to improve its rural water distribution system and Montrose will use its grant to help eliminate flooding.

Wessington Springs is receiving more than $237,000 to assist with water and wastewater infrastructure improvements.

This story has been corrected to show that the funding provided to Florence will go toward improving the city’s wastewater system, not its water distribution system.
