School District In Mitchell Raises Meal Prices By 15 Cents

MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) — Meals served at schools in the Mitchell School District will cost more during the upcoming school year.

KDLT-TV ( ) reports the school board has raised meal prices by 15 cents. The district serves breakfast and lunch.

Sean Moen is the district’s food services director. Moen says the rising costs of food and federal guidelines regulating the meals are to blame for the price increases.

Moen adds that even the 15-cent hike is “is just barely paying for the increase in food costs.”

Middle and high school students will now pay $3.00 for lunch. Elementary school lunches will go from $2.65 to $2.80 each.

School officials estimate that the price increase will give the district $25,000 more a year.
