SD Governor Proclaims June As Dairy Month

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Gov. Dennis Daugaard is recognizing June as dairy month in South Dakota.

Daugaard signed a proclamation to recognize the important role of dairy farming and the dairy industry in South Dakota’s economy, communities and health.

The state is home to 255 dairy farms that produce about 246 million gallons of milk each year. The state also has 10 plants that process one or more dairy products.

Daugaard says the dairy industry provides about $1.3 billion of economic impact to the state.

The governor says South Dakota dairy farms also are important customers for crops raised in the state. He says that helps boost rural economies.
