Signs On High Street In Rapid City A Target For Thieves
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — People who live on High Street in Rapid City don’t find the constant theft of street signs to be a laughing matter.
Resident Linda Larive tells the Rapid City Journal ( ) some people might think it’s funny or cool to steal the signs that for some might have a connection to drug use. To her, the thefts are annoying and a safety issue.
Larive worries there will be an emergency and authorities will be delayed in their response if they can’t find the street because the sign is missing.
Traffic operations worker Doug Anderson says it costs the city about $90 to replace a sign. He says the only High Street sign ever recovered was after a drug bust.
People caught stealing a street sign can face a misdemeanor charge.
