Sioux Falls Church Holds Vigil To Honor Charleston Victims

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A prayer vigil in memory of the nine people killed at a church in Charleston, South Carolina, has been held at a Sioux Falls church, where leaders called for an end to racial hatred.

The Argus Leader and KDLT-TV report the Saturday vigil drew around 40 to 50 people to the parking lot of First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls. The victims’ names were read aloud, with candles lit in their memory.

The Sioux Falls church’s worship leader, Taylor Johnson, said members “couldn’t just be here in silence.”

The Rev. Sara McManus says Sioux Falls has “a lot of racism in it, as much as we don’t want to admit it.” She says there’s a lot of work to be done in the city.
