Aberdeen Man Accused In Fatal Assault Pleads Not Guilty

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — An Aberdeen man accused of fatally assaulting another man has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges.

Bradley Quist appeared in Brown County court Friday morning. He’s charged with alternate counts of felony manslaughter for allegedly assaulting 61-year-old Ronald Witchey, who died in May.

The American News reports ( ) Quist requested a jury trial Friday.

On June 1, police in Aberdeen responded to a report of an unconscious assault victim. Officers found Witchey, who was not breathing and had no pulse. Officers performed CPR and Witchey was taken to Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

If convicted, Quist faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Court records show he posted a $250,000 bond on July 17.

A trial date has not been set.
