Rapid City Woman Drowns In Creek; Alcohol Likely A Factor

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Authorities in Rapid City are investigating the drowning of a woman in Rapid Creek.

Rapid City police responded to a report of a drowning in the creek near Steele Avenue and Omaha Street just before 7 a.m. Saturday.

There officers say they found an unresponsive woman who had been pulled out of the water and onto the bank of the creek. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Captain Dan Rud says alcohol is believed to be a factor. The Rapid City Police Department and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate.

Rud says it’s important to remember that increased water levels and creek flow in Rapid City make for an extremely dangerous combination at this point in the summer.
