Shack Housing $20K Worth Of Boating Equipment Burns In SD
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A boating shack housing at least $20,000 worth of boating equipment owned by the state Game, Fish and Parks Department burned down in Sioux Falls.
The shack of the Outdoor Campus caught on fire around 4 a.m. Saturday. Two police officers at a nearby gas station saw the smoke and reported the fire.
Outdoor Campus director Thea Miller Ryan tells the Argus Leader ( ) 21 kayaks, seven canoes, one tandem kayak, 80 life jackets, 90 paddles and four bags of bird decoys were lost in the fire.
The fire’s cause hasn’t been determined. Miller Ryan says she believes it’s unlikely it started organically because the shack had no electricity and no fuel was housed in it.
Miller Ryan says the boating equipment loss could affect the annual Outdoor University event.
