Some In Dakotas Struggle With Forest Fire Smoke From Canada
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Smoke from Canadian forest fires is causing problems for some people in the Dakotas. Health officials are urging people to limit exposure to the smoke.
The haze from wildfires in Saskatchewan has blanketed the region since last week. Napoleon, North Dakota couple David and Kelly Andrews both have asthma, and tell KXMC-TV the smoke is making it harder for them to breathe.
Chuck Hyatt with the North Dakota Health Department’s air quality division says the smoke won’t affect most people but can be bad for those with asthma or allergies. And he says it’s a good idea for anyone to avoid strenuous outside activity.
Mitchell, South Dakota, Fire Marshal Marius Laursen tells The Daily Republic that people sensitive to smoke should consider staying indoors or wearing a mask while outdoors.
