Weather Service: 1 Tornado Confirmed Friday In Day County

WAUBAY, S.D. (AP) — The National Weather Service says at least one tornado was confirmed in northeastern South Dakota on Friday.

Meteorologist Ryan Vipond says one tornado was confirmed in the Waubay area. The extent of the damage is unclear but trees were down in the area and some sheds and grain bins were crumpled.

Vipond says Day County, which includes Waubay, saw the brunt of the storm damage. There are reports of flipped campers and broken windows. Power lines were also reported down in some areas.

There were winds of up to 90 mph measured four miles west of Waubay.

Vipond says weather service staff members are out in the field surveying the damage.
