Suspect In Pay Day Loan Robbery Found In South Dakota Corn
ELKTON, S.D. (AP) — A Minnesota man is accused of robbing a pay day loan business in South Dakota and taking an employee hostage before being captured hours later in a cornfield.
Authorities say the Lake Benton, Minnesota, man robbed a Check ‘n Go in Brookings, South Dakota, and took a woman hostage.
Authorities say the woman was driving the man’s truck when she purposely crashed it. That’s when the man took off into a corn field.
Brookings County Sheriff Martin Stanwick told KELO-TV that the corn was close together, making it hard for officers to find the man.
Law enforcement surrounded the field north of Elkton, using farming equipment, a helicopter and even a drone to find the suspect. But it was a police dog who finally found the man, five hours later.
