Police: Officer Fatally Shoots Man In Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Rapid City police say an officer responding to a domestic assault call fatally shot a man who lunged at him with a “blunt object.”
Authorities say officers Tuesday night responded to a report of a domestic assault at a residence with a man and a woman inside, and forced their way in after the man refused to open the door.
Police say 46-year-old Patrick Lundstrom lunged at an officer with a blunt object raised over his head, and the officer shot him. Lundstrom was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was hurt.
The officer was not immediately identified.
The state Division of Criminal Investigation will look into the shooting. The officer has been placed on leave pending the probe. Both are standard procedure.
