Weather Hampers Fall Harvest In Parts Of South Dakota
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The fall harvest is in full swing in South Dakota, but weather has slowed farmers in some areas.
The Agriculture Department says in its weekly crop report that producers in parts in south central, east central and southeastern South Dakota were slowed by midweek rains — nearly 5 inches in some areas.
The corn harvest statewide is underway at 7 percent complete, behind the average pace. The soybean harvest is nearing one-fourth done, close to the average.
The planting of winter wheat is nearly three-fourths complete, well ahead of the average. Winter wheat is seeded in the fall and harvested the following summer.
Pasture and range conditions statewide are rated 53 percent good to excellent. Stock water supplies are 76 percent adequate to surplus.
