Fire Department Won’t Bill SD Saloon Owner For Services
STURGIS, S.D. (AP) — The Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department will not be sending a bill to the owner of the Full Throttle Saloon that was destroyed by a blaze last month.
The Rapid City Journal ( ) reports the bill for the fire department’s response to blaze added up to over $6,000. But the department has decided to ask owner Michael Ballard for only $320, which is the cost of the fuel that the department’s trucks used while battling the fire.
Officials determined the Sept. 8 fire was caused by a malfunctioning electrical cord. The loss is estimated at $10 million.
Tom Trigg is the chief of the volunteer fire department. He says the department won’t send Ballard “a bill per se,” but will ask for a donation.
