Sioux Falls Central Fire Station Is Under Restoration
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A historic fire station in downtown Sioux Falls is getting a $430,000 restoration.
KELO-TV (http://bit.ly/1R333jC) reports that crews are performing a restoration of Central Fire Station that’s expected to be complete in November.
The building has been standing for more than a century.
Jeff Helm is a division chief with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue. He says the building is an icon that’s stayed the same as the downtown area has changed.
Helm says the work is necessary to make sure the building has modern functionality but also retains its history.
The city of Sioux Falls has worked with a preservationist during the efforts to ensure the building is kept original.
