Sioux Falls Man Convicted For Stabbing Girlfriend To Death
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A Sioux Falls man could spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted of first-degree manslaughter in the stabbing death of his girlfriend.
The Argus Leader reports ( ) Michael Martinez was found guilty Thursday of three counts of first-degree manslaughter, but was acquitted of second-degree murder and a count of first-degree manslaughter.
The conviction is for the July 2014 killing of 21-year-old Beverly Guerra. Authorities say Martinez stabbed her 14 times with a knife during an argument in their apartment.
Guerra died before emergency responders arrived at their apartment.
Guerra’s 3- and 6-year-old children were in a back room during the incident. They were put in the custody of social service officials.
Martinez’ attorney didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
