South Dakota Ag, Wildlife Agencies Launch Habitat Initiative

SALEM, S.D. (AP) — State officials have launched a campaign to help South Dakota farmers and ranchers develop and maintain wildlife habitat on their land.

The Habitat Pays campaign is led by the state departments of Agriculture and Game, Fish and Parks. The campaign’s website features information about conservation programs, landowner testimonies, contact information for habitat advisers and information about the newly developed Habitat Conservation Fund and Board.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard says the efforts will enhance wildlife population and preserve the state’s outdoor traditions.

State officials kicked off the program Friday at the Peterson farm near Salem.

The campaign is a result of the 2013 Pheasant Habitat Summit and the Governor’s pheasant habitat work group, which recommended the campaign.
