COLUMN: Not-so-forced fun
For my date with Blaine, he asked if I liked Asian food, and I do, so we went to Silk Road.
Both upon our arrival and our departure, he displayed a chivalrous personality by opening doors for me, which I greatly appreciated. While we ordered two separate entrees, he was more than willing to share his entrée with me, which I liked.
The conversation was as flavorful as our meal. We talked about some general date topics like music and movies, but we also discussed some of our shared interests including, surfing, climbing, pirates, motorcycles and traveling abroad.
As the date came to an end, I invited him up to my room to meet my pet fish named Humphrey. Since he previously mentioned Star Wars, I pointed out the light saber mounted on my wall. Right as he was admiring the light saber, a friend of mine attacked us with a marshmallow gun. Upon the attack, Blaine exclaimed, “Quick, use the force!”
After the attack, we laughed at the absurdity and carefully ventured our way out into the hall, where a second attack was waiting for us. After being bombarded by a second round of pressurized marshmallows flying in our direction, we had a few more laughs and Blaine vowed revenge.
Overall, I really enjoyed my date with Blaine. He was fun, interesting and I appreciated that he did not pull out his phone at any point. In fact, I didn’t even see it. He seemed genuinely interested in me and asked a lot of good questions. In the words of Yoda, a good date it was.
