South Dakota Woman Gets 22 Years Prison In Lame Deer Murder
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A federal judge has sentenced a South Dakota woman to 22 years in prison for the murder of a woman on Montana’s Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation.
U.S. District Judge Susan Watters sentenced 42-year-old Eugenia Ann Rowland of Pine Ridge, South Dakota, on Thursday in Billings.
Rowland pleaded guilty last year to second degree murder in the death of 21-year-old Hanna Harris. Her common-law husband, Garrett Wadda, faces sentencing April 1 after pleading guilty to being an accessory after the fact.
Authorities said Rowland and Wadda had been drinking with Harris on July 3 and 4, 2013. There was a fight, and Rowland said she and Wadda beat Harris.
The cause of Harris’ death couldn’t be determined because her body was badly decomposed when it was found four days later.
