College Students To Urge Against Concealed Weapons On Campus

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota college students plan to lobby lawmakers ahead of a potential state House vote on a measure that would allow people 21 years or older to carry a concealed weapon on the six public university’s campuses.

South Dakota Student Federation Executive Director Jess Peterson said a group of students plans to urge lawmakers on Thursday to defeat the proposal before watching the expected vote from the House gallery.

Peterson says defeating the measure is important to college students in South Dakota because allowing concealed weapons on campus creates a sense of unease among students.

Supporters of the proposal say it was prompted by students who want to defend themselves on college campuses.
