Opposition From Neighbors Might Thwart Possible Wind Farm
ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — Fierce opposition from neighbors shot down an Aberdeen company’s attempt to gauge the wind capacity in Lincoln County for a possible wind farm.
Dakota Power Community Wind wanted to put up towers to measure wind speeds in the area and determine whether a wind farm would be a good investment. The company put up one meteorological tower last spring, but neighbors who oppose the project then organized.
The Argus Leader reports ( ) that members of the group We Care South Dakota told Lincoln County’s planning and zoning board that they worry about property values, health impacts and nuisances should a wind farm be built. County officials last week denied permits for five meteorological towers.
Company officials say they’re considering asking county officials to reconsider the decision.
