Company Pursuing Wind Farm Appeals Rejection Of Towers
CANTON, S.D. (AP) — An Aberdeen company eyeing a possible wind farm in Lincoln County has appealed a decision by county planners to reject the placement of meteorological towers to gauge wind capacity in the area.
Dakota Power Community Wind wanted to put up towers to measure wind speeds and determine whether a wind farm would be a good investment. The county’s zoning board rejected the request earlier this month after opposition from neighbors who worry about property values, health impacts and nuisances should a wind farm be built.
The Argus Leader reports ( ) that the company has appealed that decision to the County Commission. Deputy State’s Attorney Mike Nadolski says a public hearing will be held next month.
Commissioner Jim Schmidt says he thinks the matter ultimately will end up in the courts.
