Rapid City Police: Man Accidently Shot Himself Over Weekend
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Rapid City police say a 22-year-old man who died over the weekend accidently shot himself in the head with a gun he believed to be empty.
Police say Colton Strangerhorse, of Rapid City, was drinking with friends when he pulled out a gun from his waistband around 1 a.m.
Witnesses tell police that Strangerhorse believed the gun was not loaded when he point it at himself and pulled the trigger. He died at the scene.
No foul play is suspected at this time, but Rapid City Police and the Pennington County Sherriff’s Office is still investigating.
Rapid City Police says the public should remember to exercise extreme caution when handling firearms and should treat every firearm as loaded. The department also says that alcohol and firearms should never mix.
