Deuel County Tops Homeownership Rate In South Dakota
CLEAR LAKE, S.D. (AP) — Figures from the U.S. Census Bureau show that more people own their homes in Deuel County than in any other South Dakota county.
The Public Opinion reports that 85 percent of homes in Deuel County are owner-occupied. A report from the Black Hills Knowledge Network based on Census data shows that Deuel is one of only six South Dakota counties with a homeownership rate of 80 percent or more.
The Census Bureau earlier this year reported a continued decline in the national homeownership rate. At 64 percent, the rate is at its lowest since the spring of 1994.
The South Dakota counties at the bottom of the homeownership rate are Shannon, Bennett, Ziebach, Todd and Buffalo. Buffalo’s rate was 46.5 percent, the lowest in the state.
