Deputy Uses Bean Bag Shotgun To Subdue Suspect With Knife
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A Pennington County sheriff’s deputy used a bean bag shotgun to subdue a suspect who allegedly threatened officers with a knife.
The sheriff’s office says deputies who responded to a disturbance call about 8 p.m. Saturday ordered the man to drop the knife, but he advanced on the officers instead and told them to shoot him.
An officer stopped the man with a round from a shotgun that shoots non-lethal bean bags rather than bullets. The 26-year-old man was taken to a Rapid City hospital, where he underwent surgery for unspecified injuries.
Authorities did not immediately identify the man.
