RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Rapid City-based Black Hills Corp. plans to build a $70 million corporate headquarters in the city.

The energy company and parent of Black Hills Power will break ground in the spring on a 30-acre site on the city’s south side. The headquarters is projected to open in early 2017.

Mayor Sam Kooiker (KWAY-kuhr) calls it “a huge investment in our community.”

Black Hills Corp. serves nearly 800,000 electricity and natural gas customers in South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana, Iowa, Kansas and Colorado. The company has nearly 2,000 employees.
