Police Chase Protocol Won’t Be Reviewed In Mitchell
MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) — Mitchell City Council members say they feel no need to review police protocol for pursuits in the wake of two recent chases that resulted in crashes, injuries and a fatality.
Mayor Ken Tracy says based on the information he has, he thinks police acted appropriately. City Council members also tell The Daily Republic ( ) they don’t think micromanagement is in the best interest of either the council or the police department.
In one chase last month, suspect Ryan McManus crashed into a parked car and died. Authorities said his blood alcohol level was four times the legal limit for driving.
In the other pursuit, suspect Charles Reed allegedly caused a three-vehicle crash that injured two children, their mother and a police officer. Reed has pleaded not guilty to several charges.
