Spearfish Taking Control Of Airport, Adding Crosswind Runway
SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) — The city of Spearfish is taking ownership of the local airport from Lawrence County and planning to add a paved crosswind runway.
City Administrator Joe Neeb says all of the necessary paperwork for the transfer has been filed with the Federal Aviation Administration, and he anticipates approval by the fall.
The Black Hills Pioneer reports ( ) that the city is buying 165 acres of land for $1.5 million for the new crosswind runway at Black Hills Airport-Clyde Ice Field. Neeb says some of the money might be reimbursed by the FAA.
