Regents OK Deal With NSA For Credits Toward DSU Degree

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — National Security Agency employees will soon be able to count their cyber security training at the agency toward college credit for a degree at Dakota State University.

The state Board of Regents approved an agreement with the NSA Tuesday. The proposal translates to up to 50 academic credits toward a 120-credit undergraduate degree in cyber operations for students who have completed certain training at the NSA.

A report to the board says the agreement is the first-of-its-kind between the NSA and a higher education institution.

The program is available online, and the report predicts the agreement will spur 50 enrollees this fall.

The report says a bachelor’s degree is a requirement for employees who leave the military and want to retain their positions at the agency as civilians.
