Basic Trauma Kits Available To SD Law Enforcement Officers

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — All law enforcement officers in South Dakota can now obtain a basic trauma treatment kit thanks to a federal grant.

The kit includes a tourniquet, trauma dressing, face shield, gloves, trauma sheers and tape.

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says the kit will allow officers to immediately administer first aid that could prove live saving as they are often the first to arrive at the scene of emergencies.

The state’s Law Enforcement Training Division obtained federal funds to pay for the kits.

The kits are available to law enforcement officers and agencies in South Dakota and requires tactical medical training prior to distribution.
