Negotiations Over Teacher Salaries Stall In Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Contract negotiations between the school district in Rapid City and the teachers union have stalled.
The union declared an impasse this week after salary negotiations for the 2015-2016 school year broke down.
Discussion began in March between the Rapid City Education Association and the Rapid City School Board.
Officials with the RCEA say they’re concerned about salaries for teachers under the proposed plan if a property tax opt-out does not pass voters on June 2. The opt-out would raise an additional $6 million for the school district.
Rapid City School Board President Jim Hansen says their proposed plan gives teachers what they want. He says the union didn’t consult its members before turning down a deal.
If a deal is not reached, the groups will enter into arbitration
