Prison Inmate Pleads Guilty To Strangling Cell Mate To Death

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A South Dakota prison inmate has pleaded guilty to strangling his cell mate to death with a homemade rope.

Twenty-eight-year-old Douglas Ipsen pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the death last fall of Kent Davidson. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 50 years in prison.

Ipsen is serving a 75-year prison sentence for first-degree rape and sexual contact with a child younger than 16.

Davidson had been serving a life sentence for first-degree murder in the 2013 shooting death of his former fiancée.

Sentencing for Ipsen is Aug. 17.
