Flooding Shuts Down Stretch Of I-90 North Of Rapid City
PIEDMONT, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say motorists were stranded on Interstate 90 north of Rapid City as flooding from a storm shut down the highway.
The Rapid City Journal ( ) reports a 20-mile stretch of I-90 was closed for a time Monday night. The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the interstate was covered by up to a foot of water in some areas.
Meade County Commissioner Alan Aker says he saw golf-ball-sized hail outside his Piedmont home.

The newspaper reports a funnel cloud was spotted near Piedmont. Flash flood warnings were issued in parts of Lawrence, Meade and Pennington counties.
Mitchell Erickson with the National Weather Service says there was no confirmed damage or tornadoes from the storm.
