Authorities Treating Iowa Woman’s Death As A Homicide
VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — The death of a 29-year-old Iowa woman whose body was found in the Missouri River in southeastern South Dakota is being investigated as a homicide.
Alicia Hummel, of Sioux City, Iowa, was found dead Monday in Vermillion near the Myron Grove boat launch, which also is known as the Highline Area in Clay County.
Clay County Sheriff Andy Howe says the death is suspicious. He says Hummel’s car was found near her body, but crews are still looking for her cell phone.
KELO-TV reports an autopsy was conducted on Tuesday while crews searched the river for evidence.
Clay County authorities are looking at social media for any clues and are seeking information from anyone who may have seen anything unusual in the area.
