Rapid City Man Gets Lengthy Prison Term For Abusing Child

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A Rapid City man who admitted hitting a 15-month-old boy in the head after the child vomited on him has been sentenced to serve a decade in prison.

KEVN-TV reports ( ) that 27-year-old Austin Ehnes was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in prison with five years suspended, and ordered to pay more than $740,000 in restitution. Ehnes had pleaded guilty in April to aggravated child abuse.

Authorities say Ehnes in December 2013 struck his then-girlfriend’s child, causing a brain injury. Prosecutor Lara Roetzel says the boy still suffers from partial paralysis and will always have developmental problems.
