Official: Close Rural Foot Bridge Where People Drink, Shoot
ORDWAY, S.D. (AP) — A township official in northeastern South Dakota wants to close a foot bridge where he says people often party and shoot guns.
Ordway Township Supervisor Paul Meyers told the Brown County Commission on Tuesday that the area is known as a place where people drink and shoot. He says it’s a safety hazard for many reasons, including how close it is to a county road.
The Aberdeen American News ( ) reports Eh Thon Gar was fatally shot by a 4-year-old relative in that area in May. It was ruled an accident by the Brown County coroner.
Brown County Highway Superintendent Dirk Rogers said it would cost around ,000 to remove the bridge, and that officials could also put a gate and lock in front of it.
