The nation’s highest court could rule Friday or Monday on whether same-sex couples in every state have the constitutional right to marry.

Experts say lawsuits challenging same-sex marriage bans in both states that are still pending could be over with a sweeping rule from Washington.

In North Dakota, Burleigh County Recorder Debbie Kroshus says she’ll start issuing marriage licenses immediately if the court rules she can.

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says he believes the decision should be made by the voters of South Dakota but nonetheless says state officials will “adhere to the rule of law.”
