Baby Skunks Take Up Residency In Aberdeen Neighborhood
ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — An Aberdeen neighborhood has a stinky problem.
Between five and six baby skunks have taken up residency in a two-block area in southeast Aberdeen. The American News ( ) reports onlookers haven’t noticed any adult skunks.
Resident Ray Howell says the skunks are the size of a kitten, while neighbor Susie Klapperich says she already had to use a solution to clean her deck after one of her dogs got sprayed.
While some may find the little animals cute looking, animal control officials say skunks are major reservoirs of rabies and other diseases.
John Weaver is Aberdeen’s animal control officer. He says he has set up several enclosed traps in the neighborhood.
