Rutland School District Residents Approve $250,000 Opt Out

RUTLAND, S.D. (AP) — People in the Rutland school district have approved a $250,000, three-year opt out of the state-imposed property tax freeze.

The school board in March approved a $450,000, five-year opt out, but the decision was referred to a public vote and defeated in May. The school board then proposed the smaller opt out and put it directly to a public vote.

The Daily Leader of Madison reports ( ) that 59 percent of the 172 people who voted Tuesday approved the proposal.
