Majoring in business proves to be beneficial for students
Every student wants to major in something that will land them a job after college which is why more and more students are deciding to go with majors that are business related.
USD’s business school is one of the best in the nation and a great choice for those considering a business-oriented career. The school was featured In Princeton Review’s 2016 edition of “The Best 295 Business Schools,” which proves that not only does USD have a reputable business school, but it’s also seen as one of the best schools to attend for those considering a business degree.
One of the reasons students are picking the Beacom School of Business over any other school of business is its accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). USD’s business school has been accredited since 1949 according to the school’s business overview.
“It’s an accredited business school, which is great,” said Sam Giessinger, a sophomore finance major. “Plus, there is a lot to do with a business major and it’s what I’m interested in.”
The process of accreditation is a lengthy and rigorous process. Business schools that wish to keep their accreditation must undergo a “Continuous Improvement Review” process that is required to happen every five years.
With seven different majors to select from, there is a good variety for students to choose from. The school offers majors such as accounting and even health services administration. This makes the school attractive to potential students.
Another reason students are picking business-related fields is that there is a promise for more jobs in the future in the business field. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, both business and financial positions are expected to grow around eight percent, creating an additional 632,400 jobs from 2014 to 2024.
Students aren’t strangers to the positive outlook awaiting business majors.
“I read that in the future, there’s going to be a lot of job openings,” said Morgan Engelkes, a first-year health services administration major.
The National Center for Education Statistics reported that from 2012-13, within the 1,840,000 bachelor degrees earned, the most popular majors were in the business-related fields with 361,000 degrees and in health professions-related fields with 181,000 degrees.
In other words, students are looking for a major that will prepare them for a job after college and word of mouth has it that business majors and health professions are great bets for future jobs.
The Beacom School of Business offers its potential students the opportunity to learn and grow, which is why so many students are deciding to attend the business school. This upward trend won’t be stopping any time soon.
