The Volante’s Athlete of the Week: Ella McGee

After a stellar weekend in the batter’s box, freshman Ella McGee has been named The Volante’s Athlete of the Week. McGee helped the Coyotes to a 2-1 record over the weekend against the University of North Dakota.

The West Des Moines, Iowa, native batted 0.500 in the three-game series and lengthened her hitting streak to nine games. McGee recorded an inside-the-park homerun, triple and double on the weekend.

She went 2-for-3 in the first game, including three RBIs, three runs and a homerun. The 5’7” outfielder scored two or more runs in each game against North Dakota.

“I’ve definitely been working on my hitting and being more confident in the box, which showed over this weekend,” McGee said. “I’ve been slowing down my feet more to read the pitches better.” 

So far on the season, McGee has totaled 25 hits and nine RBIs while averaging a 0.342 hitting percentage. Defensively, she has 15 putouts and no errors. 

“I love the team we have this year,” McGee said. “I feel like we have built a good dynamic. I feel like everyone is friends and just having fun while we play.”
