THE RANT: Dear Volante Readers,

Dear Volante Readers,

Excuse me while I shake my head as I’m writing this. You see, today I was asked where I go on Tuesdays. Well, I go to my Volante meeting. The next question out of this person’s mouth was, “What’s The Volante?”

Are you kidding me? It’s only in every doorway to every building on campus. It’s the newspaper in the red racks, the ones that say “Volante” on the front page. You can’t tell me you haven’t seen it.

Dear readers: there is a problem here. The ignorance that exists on campus is amazing to me. It’s not only this, though — I’ve heard other stupid questions and comments, and they are all the same. “I didn’t know the University of South Dakota had this-and-this on campus!” and “When did USD get that?”

Now, to be fair, there are some things that people don’t know exist, especially incoming freshmen. But when it’s a sophomore, junior or senior student at USD asking the dumb questions or making the dumb comments, well, it’s just pathetic.

Not only do you show your ignorance when you ask such things, you show how lazy you are as well. There is no reason that you should not know there is a school newspaper, a pool or a soccer team. That last one was especially shocking to me when I heard it. What are people thinking?

Readers, I challenge you to go around and ask people if they have read The Volante lately. It will bring attention to the school newspaper and will educate the school population in the goings-on of campus.

You will also be doing all of their lazy, ignorant butts a solid favor.

Sincerely,

Corey Wannamaker, a very aware freshman
