HB 1087 moves forward

South Dakota House Bill 1087 is making its way through the legislature, passing the Senate State Affairs Committee 5-4 Feb. 22 in Pierre.

The bill, also known as the ‘Sentinel Bill,’ would allow the creation of school sentinel programs and the training of school sentinels in K-12 schools around the state.

Since then, it has pushed through the S.D. House of Representatives with ease, voted to pass 42-27 Jan. 29.

HB 1087 will now move on to the senate floor where it will be put to a vote by state senators.

As of Feb. 25, the bill is still awaiting a vote on the senate floor.

The ‘Sentinel Bill’ was first read on the House floor Jan. 17.
