Chris Nilsen is a freshman pole vaulter on the track and field team.
Clay Conover: What do you think about international recruiting?
Chris Nilsen: I think it’s one part unfair because you can recruit someone from another country as a 22-year-old and they’ll come in as a freshman. They have eligibility for another four of five years, and I think that’s kind of unfair to the American athletes that come in as freshmen, as like 17, 18-year-olds. Whereas the internationals have been going for like four or five more years, they have a lot more experience coming in, with a lot more time to do what they want. And I also think it’s a good opportunity for the foreign kids to come to the United States because we have a lot more opportunities in the States than they do in Europe.
