Hockey team in action this weekend
The University of South Dakota club hockey team will kick off their 2011-2012 season against Creighton University Friday at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Sophomore center Stephen Bollinger said the team has been practicing hard in order to prepare for Creighton.
“We have been hosting practices in Sioux City twice a week,” Bollinger said. “We are going to be ready for Friday’s practices.”
Sophomore forward Joseph Wieseler said the new freshmen will help the team this year.
“We have a lot of freshmen that should help us against Creighton and throughout the season,” Wieseler said. “We have two new goalies that will really help our year.”
The Coyote hockey team will sponsor two buses that will take fans from Vermillion to the game in Sioux City.
The cost for the game is $10 and the bus ride is an additional $10.
Tickets can be purchased in the MUC throughout the week before the game on Friday.
The Tyson Events Center will also be selling food and beverages, including alcoholic beverages.
Last year the hockey team donated $1,005 to the American Cancer Society and the team plans to raise money to donate towards a veteran organization this year.
The team will play another game Saturday against Creighton again and then host South Dakota State on Wednesday Oct. 5th for the Dakota Days game in Yankton.
