Giese loses seven pencils a week
EDITOR’S NOTE: Each week The Volante sports staff will interview a member of the USD athletic community and ask them off-the-wall questions. Enjoy the hilarity.
David Giese is a junior defensive lineman for the University of South Dakota football team from Chicago, Ill.
Giese has 30 total tackles on the season so far with 18 being solo tackles. He leads the team with three fumbles recovered this year. Giese also has recorded one sack on the season.
Grant Bosiacki: If you had a time machine what would you do?
David Giese: I’d go back to watch Walter Payton play in person.
GB: What is your favorite football moment at USD?
DG: Beating Minnesota at TCF last year.
GB: If you were Coach Meierkort for one day what would you do?
DG: See how many crazy stuff I could get the players to do at practice. Maybe some somersaults and duck walks.
GB: How many pencils do you lose a week?
DG: At least seven. I’ll for sure misplace one per day, sometimes two. Each pencil won’t last for more than a day.
GB: Who is always the sweatiest player on the football team after practice?
DG: Brent Johnson; he always looks like he just got out of a swimming pool.
GB: Super power you wish you had?
DG: To fast forward and rewind time.
GB: What’s your hidden talent?
DG: I have the best jokes. For example: Have you heard about the corduroy pillow? It’s making headlines.
GB: Nastiest thing you have eaten?
DG: A carrot with mold on it. I was eating them out of a bag and didn’t notice it had mold on it.
GB: Most famous contact in your phone?
DG: Former USD Coyote and NFL player Ko Quaye.
GB: What was your favorite cartoon as a kid?
DG: “Batman.”
GB: How often do you do your own laundry?
DG: When I’m at school, around once a week, but never at home because my mom will do it for me.
GB: What was your first job?
DG: Pizza delivery boy.
GB: Would you rather sack the quarterback or intercept a screen pass?
DG: Intercept a pass. I have never done that in college, so I think that would be pretty neat.
GB: What is the most annoying song right now?
DG: “Party Rock Anthem.” At first I loved it, but it’s getting way over played.
GB: What was the worst thing you did as a kid?
DG: I brought home a stray dog and it quickly destroyed my house.
GB: What would we find in your refrigerator?
DG: Sunny D, string cheese and four of five pizza Lunchables. I like to eat like a little kid.
GB: What is your favorite NFL team and player?
DG: The Chicago Bears and Julius Peppers. Grew up a Bears fan; definitely my squad.
GB: Movie you want to see in theatres right now?
DG: “Tower Heist.” I love Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy.
GB: Do you prefer Xbox or Playstation?
DG: Playstation all the way. Way better graphics and free Internet. Can’t get any better than that.
GB: If you could trade places with someone for a day who would it be and why?
DG: Rob Drydek, so I could mess around in the Fantasy Factory for a day.
GB: What’s the best advice you have ever gotten?
DG: Don’t reflect on the past, look forward to the future.
