THE RANT: 11/22/11
Dear students who play with their balls — basketballs, footballs or otherwise,
We understand that it’s something that you enjoy doing and it’s very satisfying, but there is a time and place for this. That time and place isn’t out in the public hallways of the North Complex at 3 a.m.
A friendly game of catch is meant to be played either in a gymnasium or outdoors, not in the narrow hallways of a dorm complex where people are always traveling through. Sounds are echoed in these hallways, so it’s definitely not the place to be playing catch at three in the morning.
This game of catch could have easily resulted in injury of an innocent passerby. Not only that, but it’s just down-right annoying. This became especially apparent on Friday at 3 a.m. when you and your friends ended up hitting a smoke alarm during your game of catch. This, in turn, set off the fire alarms in the North Complex more than once.
Those of us, including myself, who were sound asleep do not thank you. Not only did the alarms wake us, but we had to trek out into the cold weather because you just couldn’t resist playing with your balls. I slept like crap on this night thanks to you and I know that I’m not the only one, so next time think before you have that particular urge. Either go outside, or just leave your balls alone.
Sincerely,
Ashly Linscheid, sophomore
