THE RANT:Dear parking at USD
Dear parking at USD,
On Monday afternoon I went to the Wellness Center at 3 p.m. to play a game of racquetball with one of my friends, as well as run
afterward.
My Monday schedule was full of classes and other meetings so the only time it would work for me to exercise on Monday was at 3 p.m.
Now I understand the Wellness Center is university property and everything, but what I don’t understand is why a parking pass is required to park there.
People parking at the Wellness Center are parking there for no longer than two hours. They should be parking there if they want to use the Wellness Center that pay tuition for. They should not be parking there for the entire day.
The reason this upset me was because University Street parking was full all the way to the highway on both sides of the street.
I noticed that the Wellness Center parking lot was completely empty except for maybe 10-15 cars.
Thinking the Wellness Center parking lot should be used for those going to workout for an hour or two I thought it was safe to park.
I was dead wrong. One hour later I was coming out to my car with my friend, we found a parking official or parking police. I’m not sure what their official title is nor do I care.
The fact that I was using the Wellness Center parking for what it was created for, and that I received a fine for that, made me want to scream at the poor girl writing the ticket.
Parking for classes at USD should require a parking pass because there are students that don’t live near or on campus, and need to drive in order to attend class.
However, parking at the Wellness Center should not require a pass. People parking at the Wellness Center should park only for the time they are working out in the
building.
Sincerely,
Eric Mayer, Someone who is upset at the parking rules at USD.
