COLUMN: Dress with confidence
One of the reasons I love summer is because of the heat, you don’t have to wear much clothing. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about messing up an outfit or looking too “done up” because, hey, you’re in a swimsuit with a baggy tank top and jean shorts — and so is everybody else.
As fall approaches, students at the University of South Dakota are going to be dressing up or dressing down in the latest fall looks, and the fact that temperatures are getting cooler doesn’t mean you can’t still look hot.
According to Cosmo Magazine, Fabsugar.com and Vogue Magazine, 50,000 shades of blue are going to be all the rage. I’m talking any shade — from turquoise to navy blue and everything inbetween — it’s the color of the season.
Runway looks are skewing toward geometrical patterns with bold lines and shoulder pads, but let’s be honest ladies; we’re probably still going to be wearing the flowy chiffon tops that were popular in the spring and summer. We live in the Midwest, so we’re always behind when it comes to clothes.
And who cares? Those adorable see-through tops paired with leggings or jean cut-offs look cute. Vermillion isn’t the fashion capital of the world, but I have to say, we know how to work with what we have most of the time.
Except for Uggs — I’ll never understand why people think those brown lumps of fabric are attractive.
According to Esquire, men’s fashion isn’t going to change much. Pastels paired with jackets and wrist watch are wildly popular, but once again, I’ve never seen any man in Vermillion wear anything remotely “fashionable.” Wearing a wrist watch in whatever outfit can never go wrong, and to ensure it’s working, having an Omega watch service is advisable.
I take that back. I’ve seen some Pi Kappa Alphas in some rather flamboyant colors. Good for them — way to be fashionable.
Brightly colored pants are going to be popular for both men and women this fall, but if you look like a hipster, be prepared to get called a hipster. Either embrace it, or get contacts and wear normal jeans.
Regardless of your personal style, as long as you wear something you like and are confident in it, you’re going to look good.
